Creating a stunning balcony doesn’t always require interior design expertise. You can transform your space into a relaxing and beautiful area with a few thoughtful touches. Here’s how to get started:
1. Flooring :
Start by choosing the right flooring for your balcony. You can divide the space into two sections, such as 50/50, 60/40 or 70/30, depending on your preference.
For the entry area, use anti-skid tiles. Consider installing deck tiles, which don’t require adhesives or cement and are easy to set up. These tiles have a deck underneath, allowing water to drain below them and preventing water accumulation. They’re durable and hard with long lasting impact on them.
In the other half, use artificial grass mats. Make sure to buy mats with a thickness of over 40 mm and triple protection for longevity. Avoid placing these mats directly on the flooring to prevent water issues during the rainy season. Instead, lay down drain cells first, then place the grass mats on top. This setup ensures proper drainage and let the water drain with the help of slope through outlet of balcony.
2. Master Wall :
Identify one prominent wall in your balcony and make it a focal point. I can recommend three different ideas for this you can consider it to turn into a vertical garden or adding 3D art or using stone cladding. If you choose stone cladding, avoid overly rough textures as they can be irritating to touch, especially for children.
For a vertical garden, protect the wall with a layer of Bison board. Install vertical pots and plants to create a lush, green display.
Either you can choose a 3D art whichever you like the most and you can easily find it out online or at the store.
3. Lighting :
Lighting is crucial for enhancing the ambiance of your balcony design. Use warm white lights for a cozy feel.
Many varieties of lighting is available, you can choose series light, LED profile light, fixed round or square light but consider cylindrical lights or rotatable fixtures light for versatility.
4. Ceiling Design :
Ceiling design is one major effect gives a broad view for your balcony design but avoid using gypsum or POP for your balcony ceiling, as they can deteriorate when exposed to rain.
If you prefer sheets, be aware that joints may become visible over time. If you have a good budget I can recommend you to go with a HPL sheets, they are expensive but give more finishing look. For slightly low budget go with ACP sheets, they offer a good mid-range option with beautiful colour combination sheets and also give finished look when completely installed.
For a budget-friendly choice, use wooden planks treated with chemical grade 325 MYK to prevent damage. I know many will say that it will not last long, but make sure to use a good chemical so it can last long.
5. Seating Arrangement :
Seating arrangement is also accomodate perfectly when choosing furniture for your balcony, prioritize lightweight and easy-to-move pieces, especially if you have a grass mat area. Avoid heavy wooden furniture and opt for lighter materials.
Use low-maintenance fabrics that can handle dust and outdoor conditions.
You can also provide 2 chairs one sofa with cushion. Also providing a simple handy customised wooden or plastic platform so whenever we need to celebrate an event or organise a small party to place food and drink.
6. Drying Clothes :
In India, drying clothes on balconies is common. Instead of using space-consuming rods or stands go for retractable clotheslines that can be extended when needed and retracted when not in use. This solution saves space and maintains aesthetic of the front balcony design looks.
Extra Advice for Your Balcony Design:-
For a sleek and modern look, use glass railings for balcony with mild steel rods. This combination enhances the front balcony design with a seamless and elegant appearance. Ensure the glass is toughened to 8 mm for safety and durability.
If you have enough space, consider adding a swing (jula). Ensure your balcony is at least 4 feet wide to accommodate this feature comfortably. Adding pebbles or marble at the border can give your balcony a raw and unique look.
By following these steps, you can create a beautiful and functional balcony design space that you’ll love to spend time in.
